2018 global auto parts top 100 list released parts industry pattern change

Technology leads the future

American Auto News has released a list of the top 100 auto parts suppliers since 2005, ranking them according to the revenue (sales) from suppliers in the auto industry's ancillary market operations in the previous year. Therefore, the evaluation criteria for the top 100 in 2018 are the results of each supplier in 2017. Of the 100 companies on the list, 84 achieved year-on-year revenue growth in 2017, and 16 fell to varying degrees.

Meanwhile, Bosch integrated its traditional power sector and sold its SG holding company, which operates starter and generator businesses, to Zheng Coal Machinery, a Chinese company. Bosch has also made great progress in the field of electrification, the development of its 48V light mixing system can be quickly integrated into new models. Magna ranked third. As the "OEM Emperor" of the automotive industry, Magna has just joined hands with Beiqi New Energy, and the two sides plan to establish two joint ventures: engineering development joint venture and manufacturing joint venture to provide the development and manufacture of high-end intelligent pure electric vehicles for the Chinese market. In May this year, Magna announced an additional $300 million by 2020 to further develop the field of electric and automatic driving.


Lear, the eighth-largest U.S. component maker, has moved a lot lately, further penetrating into the advanced electronics sector by acquiring Israeli GPS developers such as EXOTechnologies. As the core business of Lear, the competition in the automotive seat market is fierce, Lear hopes to make the seats part of the automotive intelligent system, so that it can predict traffic conditions, and provide personalized cockpit space for future vehicles.


In addition, in recent years, technological innovation, strategic adjustment, high-level changes within the enterprise have greatly changed the pattern of suppliers, mergers and acquisitions and splits and even changed the "identity" and name of several companies. For example, Ando Tinto, ranked 11th, split from Johnson Automation in October 2016 to focus on seat business and jointly established Ando Tinto Aerospace with Boeing to enter the aircraft seat industry. Delphi announced last year that it had been split into two companies, namely, annpho and Delphi technology. Among them, Amberford ranked No. 21 in the list, focusing mainly on automatic driving, while focusing on big data, on-board entertainment information services and car interconnection.

 

Continental Group, Zeifu, Essence Essence, Hyundai Mobius, Lear, Fario, Virginia, Andotto, Yamazaki, Matsushita Motor Systems, Sumitomo Electrician and Mahler ranked fourth to fifteenth. From this we can see that German and Japanese parts enterprises have stronger strength.


The German continental group and ZF are both well-known parts giant. In the high-tech fields such as auto-driving, shared travel and intelligent network connection, the mainland group has a relatively early layout and a deep accumulation. Last year, the continental group announced that it would invest 300 million euros in the development of electric vehicle technology by 2021. At the Asian Consumer Electronics Show in mid-June this year, the Continental Group demonstrated a range of electric vehicles and automotive solutions.  In order to seize market share and enhance its competitiveness as soon as possible, Mainland Group has bought laser radar business from ASC, acquired Argus, a virtual security technology company in Israel, and acquired Quantum in Singapore. It has also cooperated with Huawei, China Telecom, Baidu and HERE and other high-tech enterprises to advance the layout of automatic driving business.


Zeifu has also invested a lot in research and development of automotive and electric vehicles, and has actively cooperated with Beiqi, Baidu, Mobileye and other enterprises. At last September's Frankfurt Motor Show, Zeiff announced a strategic partnership with Baidu to develop a comprehensive solution for the Chinese market in the areas of auto-driving, networking and mobile travel services. Soon afterwards, Zeifu signed a memorandum of understanding with Beijing Hainachuan Company to establish a joint venture to produce electric vehicle parts for the Chinese market.


As a Japanese component supplier, Ai Xin Ji keeps pace with Japanese vehicle companies. In March this year, TOYOTA, Ai Xin Jing and Denso announced a joint investment of 2 billion 800 million US dollars to form a new joint venture. In the future, the company is mainly responsible for the production and R & D of autopilot automotive software. In addition, in April and May of this year, the sudden expansion of production capacity of Essence in China, the intention of expansion is no doubt revealed, causing domestic independent transmission industry shocks.


The rise of Chinese Enterprises

In recent years, the number of Chinese enterprises entering the top 100 list has been increasing. There are only one Chinese company in the 2012 and 2013 lists, two from 2014 to 2016, and five from 2017. This year, there are six Chinese companies on the list, and these companies have overseas business deployment. Many enterprises have greatly enhanced their strength and overseas popularity through mergers and acquisitions.


Among the 6 companies listed on the list, Yanfeng continued to lead the race with a record of 14 billion 280 million dollars.
